About the host

The host family consists out of three strong women: Cecilia, her daughter Erika, and Erika´s daughter Britany. Cecilia is retired, and dedicates a lot of her time to the municipal council. Erika works as a nurse in one of the hospitals in Quito. Her daughter Britany is currently in high school. Another family member is their small dog Rubi, a schnauzer. The family is not smoking, but for students smoking is allowed outside on the patio. Although the family isn't vegetarian, it is possible for students to get vegetarian food if requested in advance.

About the neighborhood

The house of the family is located on a hill very close to our language school. Downhill by foot it takes about 15 minutes to get to school, the way back to the house takes about 25 minutes. The neighborhood is called La Chilena, named after a beautiful Chilean woman who lived there in former times selling empanadas chilenas. The woman had a lot of men, and her husband was very jealous until in the end he killed his wife. Today the neighborhood is a rather quiet one, with a beautiful view on the historic center. Closeby there is a great lookout point from which you can see all of Quito's center and much more of the city. To reach the center, it only takes 5-10 minutes by foot.
